Set Collection: 2011 Topps Heritage (Jackie Robinson)

I thought I would take a quick breeze thorough the 2011 Heritage set while everyone else is opening their Gypsy Queen.

Tomorrow, I plan to do a little bitching about this set, so I thought I'd start with my favorite part of the set, which redeems one of my least favorite parts. So, I do not care for the Babe Ruth Special subset. I do not think Heritage should be used to reprint cards from the original set. An awful idea! (Now, as far as I'm concerned, the original Babe Ruth subset in the 1962 set is one of my favorite subsets of all time.)

So, what redeems the inclusion of the Ruth reprints? The Jackie Robinson variations! Now, I wish they had included the Robinson cards in the actual set instead of making them expensive variations. I've included scans of the two pages in my Heritage album where I have stored the Robinsons. I only have 5 so far, but look at them (click on each scan to enlarge them) and tell me that they aren't the most awesome thing ever included in a pack of Heritage?

You'll notice there are five blank spots on the two pages. As of today, these are the ONLY blank spots in my 2011 Heritage binder. If you got 'em for trade, I'll make it worth your while!

I couldn't agree more - it would make so much more sense to have put the Robinson variation in the base set. Or - here's another idea. They really hit on Jackie because 1962 was his induction year - but it was Bob Feller's too. Given that he just passed away, it would have been really cool to do Feller as the base and Jackie as the variation.
