2002 would be the last year Greg Maddux had an ERA under 3.00. It was his last year with an outstanding ERA+, which would hover at the average for the rest of his career. For the first time since 1992, Maddux averaged more than 2 walks for every nine innings pitched (although, even in decline, he would lead the league in this statistic four more times, including his last two years in the big leagues).
