Greg Maddux was great in 1993, and in the strike shortened season of 1994, he was even better. His ERA+ was 171 in 1993 ... the best in the league. He would crank it up to an astounding 271 in 1994. His ERA was 1.56, and the league average was 4.62. Yes, Greg Maddux gave up THREE fewer runs per nine innings than the league average. 1994 seemed to be the high water mark. He couldn't get any better than this, could he?
