Glavine Collection: 1986 Southern League All-Stars #23

I thought it might be fun to contrast the injured old man with the young left-hander with a Hall-of-Fame career in front of him. In the picture on this card, he's barely old enough to drink, and he looks even younger than that. Glavine was a solid, but unspectacular minor league pitcher. He wouldn't blossom until he'd been in the big leagues a few years. Credit has to go to Bobby Cox, first as GM then as Manager, for not giving up on the left-hander. You've got to credit Tom too for not losing his confidence during his initial struggles in the majors. (This minor league set also includes cards of Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire. Fifteen years ago, who would have thought Glavine might end up being the only hall-of-famer from the set?)
