Braves Collection: Andres Thomas
1989 Topps #523
Crash and burn? Andres Thomas was a promising young shortstop who turned out, well, not to be so promising. Hey, he was 7th in the league in 1988 in at-bats, but with an on-base percentage barely over .250, I'm not sure anyone really wanted him having that many at-bats. He's been in the top 10 for outs made and double plays grounded into as well. He would lose his job to Jeff Blauser in 1990 and would bounce around the minors for a few years. He was last seen managing in the Dominican Summer League.
It seems like I'm being harsh on Andres and that isn't fair of me. The Atlanta Braves of the mid to late 80s weren't exactly an environment conducive to success, especially for a young ballplayer.
